When country music star Oaken Fox joins survivalist Mike Grizz's new adventure show in the Alaskan wilderness, he just wants to boost his fan base. But when tragedy strikes and Air One Rescue must save them, Oaken wants to quit. Too bad his producer has other plans--signing him on with Air One Rescue as a recruit and making a reality show.

EMT Boo Kingston did not join Air One Rescue to train a celebrity. But she's a rookie to the team, so yes, she'll train Oaken and keep him alive and not for a minute pay attention to his charm.

And then five women go missing from a resort during a bachelorette weekend gone wrong. Now, Air One and the rescue team will have to use all their skills and manpower--including Oaken--to find them before a blizzard settles in. But can they work together before tragedy strikes?

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. “Everyone makes mistakes. It’s how you recover that matters.”

I loved this book.

One Last Shot is the first book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series. It’s a clean romantic suspense.

Saving lives in the last frontier is always a pull for me! The epic adventures and romance pulled me in and the beautiful story held my attention.

By my criteria, I shouldn’t have liked this book:

🤠 A male headshot cover
🤠 A country music star
🤠 A reality TV show backdrop

But I did. THAT’S how good Susan May Warren is at writing suspense. She can take all the things I don’t care for and present them in a story that makes me binge-read, swoon and continually text my friend with bookish updates!

Not giving anything away, but …

✔️There’s a country music star who’s down on his luck and looking to make a comeback
✔️There’s a rookie EMT who’s out to prove that she belongs
✔️There’s a bachelorette party gone wrong
✔️A murder
✔️Lots of air rescues
✔️Ex-boyfriend drama
✔️A blizzard
✔️…. And the Kingston boys from Sky King Ranch!!!!

I loved the opportunity to return to Copper Mountain, to meet the crew of Air One, and to read this inspiring book about trust, purpose, worth, judgment and forgiveness. My highlighter was going overtime with all the inspirational verses!

I especially loved the lesson about sailboats vs rowboats and hearing about the inspiration for Boo and Oaken’s names.

“You can blame God and go it alone. Or you can trust that God loves you and that he’ll carry you through the storm.”

I purchased this ebook through the author’s website and got early access before publication!

One Last Shot is another example of why Susan May Warren is one of my all-time favorite authors. This book was so hard put down with never ending suspense, action, and edgy scenes. Oaken Fox is a country music singer/songwriter who is in Alaska to film a reality show to improve his image and social media ratings after he had an encounter with a fan. Boo Kingston works as an EMS with Air One Rescue and is assigned to train and work with Oaken. She has a bad rap with social media after a being a survival reality show. contestant. Both have baggage they should not be carrying.
We met the Air One Rescue team members in Alaska, who are all likable people, heroes really. Moose, head of the group, is an anchor to the group and a great witness and inspiration to Oaken, as is his brother, Axel. Boo's roommate London is there for her when she needs some help. Boo and Oaken need to let go of their hurts, guilts, and conflicts and allow God to direct their lives. SMW knows how to make the most of all that is going on and bring things into perspective from a spiritual viewpoint and show how freeing it is. Loved this book! This new series is looking to be an exciting and memorable one. beginning with Oaken and Boo's story. But expect some dangerous and heart stopping missions, suspenseful moments, and tragic events with faith lessons, and romance.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.

A good start to what promises to be an exciting series!

Susan May Warren is one of my favorite authors, so of course I jumped at the chance to read one of her latest releases.

Both Oaken and Boo were engaging, sympathetic characters who went through a lot of hard times. Their backstories added to the depth of the plot, and I enjoyed "meeting" them. I'm also anticipating reading the stories of some of the side characters.

The plot moved along at a good clip and contained the adventure and romance I've come to expect when picking up a Susan May Warren book. I did have a little difficulty with the writing style for the first few chapters, but that went away as I read on. I appreciated that the romance and language were clean and that the main characters were growing in their faith. I did disagree with a bit of the faith content, but that didn't take away much from my enjoyment of the story.

Overall, I found One Last Shot to be an exciting read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction, romance, and adventure. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the Alaska Air One Rescue series.

“There’s the story we create and the story we’re created for. Maybe that’s what this adventure is all about.”

Nobody writes adventure romance quite like Susan May Warren, and One Last Shot is a perfect example. In this kick-off to what promises to be an intensely compelling series, the characters battle external elements, internal angst, reality show drama, social media opinions, time, and occasionally even each other as they race to rescue people who are missing, stranded, and/or injured in Alaska’s harsh and beautiful landscape. Including, at times, their own team. I devoured this book, unable to put it down, riveted to the page, and hardly daring to breathe in places. The author excels at immersing readers into her stories, and I really did feel like I was right there in the middle of all of it with the Air One Rescue Team.

Boo Kingston is a rookie EMT with Air One Rescue and, while she loves the work and enjoys the team, her complex backstory means she’s still holding them at arms length. Trust doesn’t come easy for her anymore, not after the humiliation that had her running as far from home – and social media – as possible. (Speaking of her family… can I hope for a series that features them, pretty please?? I am intrigued by her siblings and want to know their stories too!) I loved Boo’s personality and her inner strength (she’s pretty amazing) – but I also loved her weaknesses because it’s in her vulnerability that the author crafts a beautifully tender rescue. Not just the kind of rescue that her team does best or that Oaken’s feelings for her can offer but the ultimate rescue brought about by a God who will go to any lengths to show her that He is trustworthy and that she is beloved.

“God is not content leaving us in our lies. He wants to set us free, and he’ll keep running after us, in every storm, trying to get our attention.”

And oh goodness does Susan May Warren know how to write a hero! Oaken Fox is layered and engaging, and SWOONY and, while he may have temporarily joined the Air One Rescue team to appease the reality TV producers and salvage his image, it’s soon clear that he belongs there. And not just with Boo, though the delightful chemistry they have is responsible for the majority of my grins while reading One Last Shot (and once they get to kissing – whew!!!!!), but also with Moose and Axel and Shep and London. His survival adventure tests everything he thought he knew about himself and his career and his family and God, and I loved how the author directed Oaken’s spiritual journey throughout this novel.

“You can blame God and go it alone. Or you can trust that God loves you and that he’ll carry you through the storm.”

Bottom Line: One Last Shot by Susan May Warren takes readers on an intense adventure that only Alaska can deliver, keeping me on the edge of my seat and thoroughly entertained. Parachutes that fail, vans that land in rushing rivers, bridal parties that go missing in a blizzard… each heart-racing new rescue had me glued to the page, and the author’s stellar storytelling made me feel like I was on that chopper, in the midst of the danger, too. While most of the suspense in this novel is adventure-related, there are a couple of possible murderers on the loose that raise those stakes – and our pulses – even further. The faith message in One Last Shot is so beautifully done, the plot riveting, the characters layered and engaging. I loved my introduction to the Alaska Air One Rescue team, and I look forward to spending more time with them over the course of this series. It was also fun to see characters from the author’s Sky King Ranch and Wild Montana Rescue series again.

Wow! One Last Shot is a fantastic start to the brand new Alaska Air One series. There are a few characters from some of the author’s other books who make appearances in this story, however, having read any of the other books that those characters are in is not necessary to the enjoyment or understanding of anything in this novel.

I loved the way the author gave these two main characters, Oaken and Boo, backstories which were weighing them down. Whether it was feelings of embarrassment and shame or guilt and anger, both Oaken and Boo had to let go of these things and give them over to God.

It was great to see Oaken excel as a rescuer and really bond with both Boo and the entire team. The rescues were breath stealing and heart pounding and made me feel as if I was experiencing them right along with the characters. The romance that began to develop between Boo and Oaken was definitely swoon worthy! I appreciated that Oaken appeared to be a very different type of man from the one who had caused Boo so much grief. I am so excited to read the future books in this series!

Susan May Warren is an author I have never found disappointing.

There's the story we create and the story we're created for. Maybe that's what this adventure is all about.

This first book in her new series with loads of adventure, life threatening danger, two main characters with loads of past hurt to work through and supporting characters with significant spiritual wisdom made me devour this book!

"Which one is it? Because guilt is real and it makes us run to forgiveness. But shame is what the devil uses to get us to hide from God."

Boo and Oaken were great main characters, who from the first dangerous meet till the end, had a clear connection which jumped out of the page.

“Second, the world is broken. Storms happen. Accidents happen. And people die. We can't escape that. So the question is - how are we to respond to that?”

“You can blame God,"..."and go it alone. Or you can trust that God loves you and that he'll carry you through the storm.”

The adventure as we follow team one on the various rescues, and the open-ended threat of a possible killer which follows through to the next book in the series, had me on the edge of the seat.

I loved meeting the new characters and catching up with old ones.

If this is your first Susan May Warren book, you will not feel too lost not reading the previous series, however, you have an amazing backlist to work through!

Excited for the second book about Axel, but really want to get to Moose’s story!

“See, God doesn't wait for us to come to him. He comes after us. He moves first, Oaken. Even when it feels like we're the ones running to him.”

“Because why not? Every girl needed a good rescue at least once in her life.”

4.75 stars!

Boo Kingston is part of the Air One Rescue team in Alaska. She participated on a Survival TV show in the past and got betrayed. So when Oaken Fox, famous country singer, comes to Alaska to do a survival show to save his reputation, Boo wants no part of it. However, they have to work together, with the rest of the Air One Rescue team with training Oaken. But soon they go out on real calls and it gets dangerous.
I really enjoyed this story! I loved how both characters have made mistakes and have past pain and have to learn how to get healed from that. I loved the Christian content that helped them. I also loved their relationship and the entire Air One Rescue team. Overall great Christian Suspense Romance and I definitely recommend!

I have so many things from this book that I could gush about, but I don’t even know where to start!

I truly don’t know how Susan May Warren absolutely crushes it with every single book she writes! 😍😍🔥😍 I have a lot of favorite stories of hers, but I think this one jumped to if not the very top then at least top three! It was so dang good!

My favorite part of her books is the faith, hands down. It’s never watered down, but true faith and the truth that people need to hear. This book had me tabbing so many little gold nuggets and I loved every bit! I was reminded of my Savior’s love for me, how He is in control and that life is so much better when you’re walking in His ways and letting Him lead, how fear can lead to so many destructive things like selfishness and isolation, and just so many more things and I so appreciate how Warren writes them! 🥰

I can’t even begin to express all the other things I loved about this book, and believe me there are A LOT! 😍😍🔥😍 the whole Air One Rescue team is just perfection! The chemistry and banter between Oaken and Boo was amazing and precious! The setting of Alaska and how Warren writes it always makes me want to move there! 😍

And oh my, Moose! 😍😍😍😍 I have been wanting his story since we first got him in a previous series, and what we got of him in this one has made me oh so ready for book three! 🔥 I’m so excited to read the rest of this series and see what’s in store! 💕

This book only continues to illustrate why Susan May Warren is basically an auto-buy author for me! She is truly a master of her craft, and new as well as veteran SMW readers will not be disappointed with this newest release. There's action, adventure, romance, and all the theological punches I've come to expect with her books. (Both excellent and convicting, heh!)

Readers of her other series will recognize familiar names/characters here as well, but it's not necessary to have read the other series first--just pick this up and enjoy!

I'm definitely looking forward to future installments in the series. My only disappointment with this book is that it's over!

I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

One Last Shot

Absolutely wonderful start to the new series. A country music star, Oaken Fox has been tasked by his manager to join a reality television survival show out of Alaska. Tragedy hits and the Air One Rescue force is called in to rescue them cutting the film short. When the producer decides more footage is needed, he enlists the Air One Rescue to train Oaken and take him on rescues to complete the footage needed to complete the program. Boo Kingston joined the rescue team to help people, not to train entitled celebrities. Since she is the newest member of the team, she is elected to train Oaken. This book has all of the adventure and danger we expect in Susan May Warrens books.

One Last Shot just may be my favorite Susan May Warren book to date! I enjoyed this story from start to finish. The romance, action, mystery, and faith message were all so well done.

I really enjoyed everything about this story! The romance between Oaken and Boo was perfect! I loved their chemistry. The action had me holding my breath and turning the pages as fast as I could. I enjoyed the mystery and was totally surprised at who the villain was. The faith thread was prominent throughout and felt natural to the story.

This story is full of action, romance and faith that will keep you turning the pages long into the night. You don’t want to miss it. The blurb about book two, One Last Chance, has me hooked already. I can’t wait till it’s out!

This book absolutely delivers! I loved this action packed romantic adventure from Susan May Warren. Alaska has long been a favorite setting of mine for suspense stories and I was so excited that this book would be taking place in its wild and unpredictable landscape! The characters in this book were great and I genuinely liked them all! The team dynamics worked so well and there were plenty of naturally occurring dangerous moments due to the nature of their jobs to bring excitement to the pages. The romance between Boo and Oaken was slow building in the best way! I was rooting for this couple! I would absolutely recommend this one to suspense or romance readers! It was enjoyable and entertaining and a great read!

I just read this first book in the new series by Susan May Warren.
ONE LAST SHOT is so good!
It's packed full of so much action and drama with bits of romance woven into it, I’m still letting it settle in my brain!
In this book, you will experience real death-dropping action and scenes. The author keeps us on the seat of our chairs gripping the armrest trying to breathe.
I’m so glad I’m not one of her characters because of all the things she puts them through. WOW! The action is non-stop and jaw-dropping. The way Susan May Warren describes the mountains in Alaska and the action will leave you feeling you’re right there with each step.
I'm at a loss to have words eloquent enough to convey the depth of emotions and feelings I get each time I pick up one of Susan May Warren's books. In each of her books, I find wonderful life lessons of the love of God, woven in such a way that it is real and not fake or pushed.
Whatever Ms. Warren writes I'll read because I know I'll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing.
True to all Susie's books this one is so amazing and the imagery is out of this world!
It kept me reading late into the night!
You should truly pick it up!
WOW WHAT A RIDE!!
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved being back in Alaska with Susan May Warren and the extended Kingston family. The reality show aspect was a new twist for her books. I liked how Oaken and Boo had similar hurts from the past and the mystery that kept me guessing for a while. Moose and his brother Alex were a great duo for bouncing off faith discussions in a natural way. I get frustrated when characters who are supposed to like each other decide to assume the worst instead of talking to each other and giving them a chance. But otherwise, it was a great ride and Susie's world is as compelling as ever.

Thank you to the author for providing an ebook so that I could write an honest review. All opinions are my own.

One Last Shot is an intense, action-packed, and emotional story of Boo and Oaken, and the Air One Rescue team. Between various rescue missions and dealing with fall-out of previous poor decisions/impulsive acts, Oaken learns to be part of the rescue team, and Boo and Oaken learn to trust and move past their mistakes. They also learn that faith will help them in that journey. The story is complex and gripping, and details of the various rescues was fascinating. I’m excited for the next book in this series! (And if you’ve read the Sky King Ranch series, there’s a fun connection to this series).

I can't get enough of Susan May Warren books. Her heros are the swooniest ever, the stories are full of action and romance, and I just thoroughly enjoy the cast of characters. One Last Shot is a fantastic start to a new series. Like I already want to read it again because I enjoyed it that much. I don't know how SMW comes up with these brilliant plots, but man they are good.

Oaken. Swoon. Smile. Let me wipe the drool off my mouth. HAHA. He's just loveable guys. He's strong, caring, swoony, hunky, yeah..... I think you get the picture. But underneath all that masculinity, he's got some vulnerability that actually makes him even more loveable. SMW once again gives readers a well rounded hero with depth, machoism, and a cuteness factor that will have you blood pumping. Read this story just for that if nothing else.

But seriously you guys. Warren also knows how to write realistic conversations, emotions, problems, and so many things we can relate to. No, we aren't all trying to rescue people in these disastrous situations, but there's so much more to this story then that. I am already chomping at the bit for the next book. Is it time yet!?

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Alaska Air One Rescue book #1

Oaken Fox, a country music star, wants to boost his fan base and joins survivalist Mike Grizz’s new adventure show in the Alaskan wilderness. It didn’t take long for tragedy to strike and have Air One Rescue on site, the experience was enough for Oaken call it quits but his producer has other plans for him...On the other side, Rookie EMT Boo Kingston is there to keep Oaken safe and is assigned to his training and safety.........and the story goes on when five women goes missing and Air One team uses all the skills to find them, Oaken needs to step up and be part of the team.

No lack of action in this one. If you like search and rescue activities in a mountainous environment you will be very happy with this story. We learn about ascender, carabiners, tension, knots and the many techniques used for a safe rescue. The narrative is very active I felt I was there with each step the characters took. The tension in vivid and intriguing in some ways, we never know what will happen next. Sure way to keep us turning the pages and interesting in the drama. Yes drama there is attraction between Boo and Oaken, tragedy: people getting lot or hurt, threatening others, you name it, you will find it here. What I like the best is the camaraderie played out between characters. They mess with each other and will go to no ends to help.

“One Last Shot” is all about ones last chance to start all over again, putting the past behind, forget and forgive and to look forward to a new beginning. Boo and Oaken’s characters show us how this is possible...

I received this ebook from Revell via Netgalley for my thoughts: this is the way I see it.

I usually love Warren’s action romances, but I gotta admit, I could not get into the character of Boo, who came across as whiny and borderline rude for the first third of the book (and toward the end, when she was in the wrong, she never apologized). She had a military background that could/would have been amazing fodder for development but was barely mentioned; instead she had a different emotional hang-up (which I won’t mention) that just didn’t seem like it should be the hang-up it was. There is a very strong forgiveness theme (one of my favorite themes) and Warren’s usual deft handling of faith struggles. The action scenes made it move faster and get better, but unfortunately I never really warmed up to Boo.

My thoughts: One Last Shot is Ms. Warren's latest and it is a page turner. I didn't want to put this book down. Boo is reserved, cautious, and relateable, and Oaken is a star who lives big. They'd both been targeted on social media and their names run through the mud, but all they can do is live with it. Or is it? I enjoyed this book so much i want to go back and read it again. Recommended. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

Susan May Warren is a must read author for me. I love the action, the romance in her books. And I definitely love that she brings back characters that are old friends. And One Last Shot did not disappoint on any of these things!
I sat down Sunday morning to read this and was done by Sunday afternoon! I just grabbed my attention and demanded to be read.
Oaken and Boo (okay, I was “eh” at first on their names but I love both of them now!)

Both Oaken and Boo are searching for a new start. And Oaken needs some help with that new start. And apparently being a celebrity on a reality show is what his agent thinks will help. But things go from bad to worse right from the get go. Now Oaken is lost in the middle of nowhere Alaska with a very injured survival specialist.

As for Boo, she wants nothing, nada, zilch to do with anything related to a reality show. Just let her do her job as a member of Alaska Air One Rescue and go home.

But, that is exactly what happens. A reality show where Boo will train Oaken to be an air rescuer. And maybe just maybe, they can actually rescue each other.

This story is filled with action, a building romance and story's of needing Jesus in your life. The author weaves in our need for God in wonderful and non pushy ways. I love it. Such Truths are shared without it being alarming and “in your face”.

I was given an early release of this book by the publisher for an honest review. All thoughts and comments are my own. I highly recommend this book. It's the start of a what is bound to be a phenomenal series. And yes, you meet some old friends along the way. I mean, it is Alaska and there is flying and rescues involved. How can the Kingston brothers not show up? Again, these characters were seamlessly woven in. Love it.

Mrs. Warren kept me awake all night long with this one. So good. I love the line "There's the story we create and the story we're created for." We just need to learn to look through God's view. That has set heavy with me all weekend. What an awesome reminder of who we are to God.

This novel has all the action, suspense, and romance we’ve come to expect from Warren. I liked the storyline of a country music singer with a tarnished reputation trying to boost his image by participating in a reality show. Oaken Fox is up for the challenges he faces and comes across as realistically capable. Boo Kingston starts off a little standoffish, but it didn’t take long for me to be one hundred percent for her. Behind her reluctant façade is a heart of gold. The secondary characters added to the dynamics of the story. If you like the faith element in your stories, you’ll be pleased by this one. One Last Shot is a great beginning to the new series and kept me engaged throughout. I’m looking forward to the next three stories.

“What you have, Oaken, is a vision problem. You see things through the lens of your own perspective, your own goals and hopes and fears. But when you open your eyes to God’s view, you might see that the story is a lot different than you think.”

I can always count on Susan May Warren to provide a satisfying, fulfilling, God-centered love story. In the mountains of Alaska, she succeeds brilliantly with One Last Shot. I couldn’t keep the grin from my lips when familiar faces from her Sky King Ranch series return, if only in minor roles. Warren’s newest work is excellent, featuring believable characters, impactful lessons, and a heartfelt love story. She once again proves why she’s my favorite author of the Christian romantic suspense genre. Her books not only give me all the “warm and fuzzies” known to romance novels; they teach me and remind me how good my God is.

In One Last Shot by Susan May Warren, Boo Kingston could have won the reality show Survivor Quest, but she trusted the wrong ally. Some say “Any publicity is good publicity,” but Boo would vehemently disagree. The nickname “Boo Hoo” follows her in the public eye, so she goes dark. Alaska seems like a good place to hide, and she’s able to use her skills as a medic with Air One Rescue. But Boo doesn’t hang out with her teammates outside of work; she lets no one too close. She wants no recognition, no attention. Boo just wants to live her life without social media breathing over her shoulder…when she carries it as a heavy burden on her back.

Oaken Fox made a mistake, and now he’s trying to restore his reputation. A survival show for a $50,000 donation seemed like a good start. A tragic accident changes things, and he suddenly finds himself training as a celebrity guest with Air One Rescue. Boo draws the short straw and becomes his main trainer, trying her best to stay away from the cameras and producers and off the screen.

Throughout the story, the book’s supporting characters provide valuable lessons to Oaken and Boo, all of which are founded on Christian principles. If I had read a physical version of One Last Shot by Susan May Warren, highlights would’ve filled the pages. I adored this book. It isn’t one I’d necessarily recommend to my non-Christian friends—as they might consider it “preachy”—but for me? Warren’s newest novel wrote words on my heart I didn’t even know it needed.

Boo Kingston is running from a past love mishap on a reality show and moves to Alaska and joins Air One Rescue. Oaken Fox is a country music star who is dealing with the death of his sister and blaming himself. He decides to do a reality show with Mike Grizz in the Alaskan wilderness. An accident happens and Oaken ends up working with Air One Rescue, with Boo as his trainer, to finish the episode. Will Boo and Oaken work through their pasts of hurt and be able to move forward?

I always love her books

I read this book till late in the night considering I had to get up at 6:00 am for work. It kept the adrenaline hopping. Oaken and Boo were meant for each other, but will they get to the point they know it. They came from such different backgrounds and we determined that it was supposed to be that way. I highly recommend this book. Read it you will love it
