Rate this book
Wife. Mother. Homemaker. Detective. Kit Forge wears many hats, and if that’s not enough, she’s partnered with her father to open a new detective agency. It’s hard to be all things to all people, but Kit never shies away from the impossible. Despite her hard work and good intentions, some things fall through the cracks.

Namely, her husband.

But Jackson barely notices. He’s too busy putting out his own fires. As the new chief inspector of a busy London station, he must salvage the disaster left behind by the former police chief—an obstacle made all the harder when the superintendent breathes an ultimatum down his neck.

Against her father’s advice, Kit takes on a case involving a missing child, one in which she and Jackson become a little too emotionally involved. . .and end up endangering their own little girl in the process.

Can Kit and Jackson learn that just because they can say yes doesn’t mean they should?

I hear voices. Loud. Incessant. And very real. Which basically gives me two options: choke back massive amounts of Prozac or write fiction. I chose the latter. Way cheaper. I've been writing since I discovered blank wall space and Crayolas. I seek to glorify God in all that I write...except for that graffiti phase I went through as a teenager. Oops. Did I say that out loud?

Going to put this as a soft DNF for now. I will attempt it again at a later (but soon) date. Not thrilled with the content I'm already seeing coming down the tracks, so to speak. Also the some content in just the first two chapters. Will come back to later and decide about it then.

Quite enjoyable. Plenty of humor and lighthearted moments. Plenty of intense, action packed moments. High faith content, filled with normal, everyday Christian living. Several twists that for me were unforeseen. Jovial banter between several of the characters. Often made me giggle snort out loud. Everything I love in an engaging book: suspense, mystery, fun, joy, high faith content, yet still a light read. I certainly became invested in the dilemmas the characters experienced. I was blessed with a free ARC, and I’m voluntarily leaving my review. Highly recommend. This is the third in a series and I hadn’t read the previous two. I do wish to go back and read them. I look forward to much more by this author.

I What I loved about this book is how authentic the characters were. Kit, having raised herself on the streets of London, was raw and grew throughout the series. She's a believer like many of us, but she fails sometimes, "spits out an expletive" (not on the page but we are told she did). She's not an angel, but the story is realistic. Watching Kit grow in faith and as a woman is one of the delights of this series. I don't want to be preached to in a book. I don't want a book about choir members cleaning up London. I wouldn't read that. What I want is a story about flawed people who, with God's help, are able to solve the crime and save the day. That's what Griep's books give me.

I loved this book so much! I enjoyed seeing the obvious love between Kit and Jackson, and Kit's intrepid spirit was so endearing. Griep's sense of place and time was spot on and totally immersed me in the history and era. The tangled mystery kept me riveted as did the excellently crafted characters and the layers of relationship complexity. Well done!

The adventures of Kit and Jackson Forge take a dangerous turn as Kit and her father, Henry Graystone, open a new inquiry agency.
It was a joy to read such an entertaining story full of memorable and colorful characters especially when Ms. Griep used amusing words and phrases from the era. It fits right in with the type of story Dickens wrote.
Kit is now a mother of one year old Bella and is not quite settled into domestic pursuits as evidenced by her horrible cooking skills. But the romantic sparks still fly between Kit and her husband. Kit is torn between staying home with Bella and bringing justice to evildoers. It is a good thing her husband is Chief Inspector of police at the local precinct.
There is comic relief on several fronts in the form of a pet Armadillo, a lazy member of the police squad and the unusual Mr. Catchpole whose life changes when he meets Inspector Forge.
I love the way the author infused the story with Christian elements. Kit and Jackson may struggle a bit in their faith but they grow and recognize that God is in control.
I do hope there are more adventures in store for this intriguing duo.

Oh my blooming crikey! Another series I need to add to the TBR and this one is blazing! The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep is a very well researched, very well described, action-packed historical mystery.

Now, I must admit that I was a bit adrift at the beginning, but became utterly immersed into the narrative as it is abundantly clear that Griep is passionate about the era and knows what she is talking about, let alone creating characters that are reflective of the sensibilities of the time (which is exemplified by the dialogue used throughout and it is lively that is for sure)

Strong and immersive storyline, beautiful narrative creating a deep ambience and fantastic character development.

Thank you to Netgalley, Barbour Publishing, Barbour Fiction and the amazing author Michelle Griep for this outstanding ARC. My review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own

Another exciting adventure with Kit & Jackson Forge! Michelle Griep knows how to write a compelling series. I’ve loved each book in the Blackfriars Lane series and highly recommend starting with book 1! The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane is book 3 and I’ve loved watching Kit & Jackson fall in love, marry, and now experience parenthood all while solving crimes and bringing ne'er-do-wells to justice.

In this story, Kit experiences the conflicts of balancing motherhood with her desire to be a private investigator. She and her father have opened up a detective agency while her husband works as the new Chief Inspector of one of London’s busy police stations. While Jackson’s under pressure to meet the demands of his superiors, Kit’s struggling with whether or not she should stay home with their darling one year old daughter Bella. When she’s presented with a case of a missing husband and child, the mother’s plight tugs on Kit’s heartstrings. Though her father’s suspicious, Kit vows to locate the missing child. But, all is not as it seems and as Kit & Jackson unravel the mystery, they find more than they bargained for, putting many lives in danger including their own daughter.

Kit & Jackson are such a fantastic team. It was fun seeing their domestic life mixed in with solving crimes. Kit’s a terrible cook though she tries, but her sweet affection for her husband more than makes up for it. They’ve acquired a pet armadillo whose antics provide some funny, lighthearted moments. Bella’s adorable and both Kit & Jackson are in a competition to get her to say mama & papa. The secondary characters bring another fun dynamic to the story. I enjoyed the budding romance between Martha & Inspector Baggett. I also liked the quirky characters in the police station including Mr. Catchpole & Harvey.

The mystery was complex with several twists and turns. It kept me on the edge of my seat and the ending was especially intense. It’s very much a Dickens-like story that doesn’t shy away from Society’s gritty aspects. I loved the way faith was naturally woven in and the lessons learned such as paying attention to the talents of those around you and recognizing you can’t do it all.

I highly recommend the audiobook version. The narrator was fantastic. I appreciated the way she voiced all the characters including male and female.

This is definitely a must read series for historical mystery/romance fans! Though I think this is the last book, I’m not ready to let these characters go. I’m hoping there’re more mysteries and adventures in store I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane is the final book in the Blackfriars Lane series of which I highly recommend reading all three in order.
I have really enjoyed spending my time with Kit and Jackson in these past three books. There has been a lot of character development for both of them.
The series including this book takes place in Victorian England and it's so different from the books I have read taking place in modern day England.
For your convenience there are historical notes at the end of the book explaining a bit about the time period and the definition of some words. I know it helped me a lot.
The book was an adrenaline-soaked rush the whole way through. I think as I read some of the book I forgot to breathe. From the circus to the back-alleys will an emotional case from the heart be their last? Kit and Jackso love their new baby daughter with all their heart, but will they be able to maintain their quality work and the care of their daughter as well. A faith filled historical fiction balancing mystery, suspense and the importance of family.
Highly recommended!

Such fun! Kit is a riot and even motherhood doesn't dampen her feisty personality. Loved her rounds of sparring with her husband Jackson, her father (and co-worker) Mr. Graybone and Mr. Baggett.

The romance between two secondary characters was lovely.

Enjoyable historical romance series. Sad to see it come to an end.

What a fun and breathtaking ride this series takes the reader on! I love each story! This is one series I recommend reading in order. I have thoroughly enjoyed every step of the adventures of Kit Turner and Jackson Forge on Blackfriars Lane.

Kit wants to keep using her sleuthing skills to make her corner of the world a better place, instead of taking on all of the traditional roles of motherhood. She teams up to run an agency with her father. Their first case brings unexpected dangers, and while she is accustomed to danger, she now has a family. Kit struggles with how to juggle her duties to her husband and baby daughter, and wanting to continue using her talents. When danger closes in, she begins to rethink her ideas. Loved the appearances from their good friends Charles and Martha.

The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane is a page-turning, perilous, on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense story that keeps you glued to your chair until the very end. I highly recommend this story and this series by the very talented author Michelle Griep!

4.5⭐The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep is an action-packed historical mystery that is both exciting and dangerous. It is filled with humor, adventure, romance, and on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense. In my opinion, it is the best book in the series so far. The ending had me screaming and my heart racing.

"What I want is you just exactly as God has made you. That’s all I’ve ever wanted …you’re
all I’ve ever wanted."

Kit and Jackson are trying to balance parenthood with their roles in Kit's newly formed detective agency, which she runs with her father. Meanwhile, Jackson has been promoted to Chief Inspector. Though Kit is street-smart, she sometimes acts impulsively. Now that she is married and a mother, she is struggling to find her place in life.

Against her father's advice, Kit takes on a case involving a missing child. However, she and Jackson become too emotionally involved and inadvertently put their own little girl in danger. The story explores the flaws of its characters; making it more real: Kit is not perfect and was raised on the streets. Kit and Jackson may struggle with their faith, but they learn and grow to recognize that God is in control.

A subplot about the romance between Kit's friend Martha and Inspector Charles Baggett was heartwarming.

This book is well-researched and well-described, which made me appreciate the story even more. Throughout the book, Michelle Griep never forgets her writing purpose, which is to lift the Lord. Exciting Read! I highly recommend it.

It can be read as a standalone story, but I would recommend reading the first two books it gives you a good background on the characters.

Content: language, cursing, mild sexual tone.

I was really excited when I saw this book was up for review on Netgalley as I had been watching for it for quite a while. Unfortunately, I was disappointed because of the sheer amount of negative content.

Things I liked: Jackson's and Kit's sweet daughter Bella and her darling interactions with her Grandpa Turner. Also, her pet armadillo named Brooks. Martha was also a favorite character of mine. She had so, sooo much on her plate, but she handled it marvelously, was a wonderful mother to her children and a good friend to all. She spoke up for what was right and good, but she used tact. A true role model.

Things I didn't like: Language. Kit swears and I mean, a LOT. It's not always written out, but it's mentioned 3 times that I remember right off that she was swearing like a sailor and/or saying oaths that would make a sailor or deckhand blush. While I know Kit raised herself on the streets and had a hard life, she's had time over the last book to mature and mellow a bit. This along with along with several inappropriate comments she makes or thinks about her and Jackson's love life was part of why I rated this lower than I otherwise would have.

Hellhole, hell, Hades, hell bent, fools, what the devil, etc are used by various characters.

Sexual Content
A trollop or tramp in a slum district sports a horrifyingly revealing top that cause her to practically spill out the top of it. She flaunts herself and tries to provoke a undercover cop into staying with her. He refuses of course, and she comes off with a very vulgar retort on how a man's face or head wasn't body parts she paid attention to. A mention of a bawdy house and a flash house. A mention of a circus woman's scandalous costume. A mention of a married Kit trying to seduce Jackson to get her way, the details which I won't mention.
Someone mentions the "scoundrel that spawned us.."
A mention of a man having an affair with another man's wife. A villain who is likely a rapist crudely "jokes" about how he wouldn't squeal to the cops, but that he sure makes the ladies squeal.

Triggers:
Brief mentions of alcohol and a couple cops waiting to go out for a pint after work. Mention of a violent girl dismembering rats to scare other children.
Blood, deaths, moderate violence.

Sorry to say, I can't recommend this book. If you want a cleaner read, pick up either of the previous books in the series and you'll be better off.

Thank you to the publisher for the complimentary e-book I received to review through Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review and thoughts above are my own.

I have enjoyed following this series. With the new addition to the family dynamics, the stakes are higher as the sleuths determine to rid the London streets of sickening criminals. I feel like I am right there with them in the muck and mire of smelly, dirty dens of vipers.

Once again, the author has captured an era and made the pages of the mystery come to life. Step back and become a sleuth for a while.

Bravo, Michelle!

Wow! What a book! The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane is exciting, dangerous, on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense. But Michelle Griep never forgets her purpose for writing and that is to lift up the Lord. This book is the third in a series of books about Blackfriars Lane featuring Detective Jackson Forge and Kit Turner. If you haven't read the series I highly recommend them even though it is not required to understand this book. In this book the two characters are married and have a precious little daughter that calls everyone "ba-ba". Jackson is now the Chief Inspector and Kit is a detective. They each are pulled into conflicts and situations. It's like watching a roller coaster twist and turn and take huge plunging dips. You wonder if it will come back up but it does and that is the beauty of Michelle Griep's writing. She holds you captive until the very last word. I highly recommend this book and all of the other Blackfriars books.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Barbour Fiction for allowing me to read an advanced reader copy of the book. The review I gave was my own opinion.

A great finale to the Blackfriars Lane series!

I think this has been my favorite Michelle Griep series so far. Kit and Jackson are such relatable, well-developed characters, and I've really enjoyed following along on their adventures and "seeing" them grow over the course of three books. I thought the side plot of Charles and Martha's developing romance was sweet, but Charles's POV was my least favorite (just because I wanted more of Kit and Jackson).

The plot had plenty of action, suspenseful moments, and high stakes. As far as the romance went, there were a few suggestive comments I could've done without, but I wasn't terribly offended or anything. There may have been a less-than-respectful use of God's name, and of course, there was the requisite British slang.

Overall, I found The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane to be an exciting read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and historical romance. I'm looking forward to reading what Michelle Griep writes next!

This is a delightful Christian historical fiction set in London. Was a wonderful mystery that is a fast action packed book. I enjoyed some of the Victorian slang. The book demonstrates a couple love stories and spends a small amount of time on God’s teachings. Wrestles with a wife and mother who is trying to also work for the good.

The Blackfriars Lane Enquiry Agency

Kit Forge (née Turner) has opened a detective agency with her Father, retired police sergeant Graybone.
Her husband Jackson, now Chief Inspector Forge, of course encourages her. He understands the gift Kit is. Oh, not your usual housewife. Oh no! Kit is a law unto herself, a child of the streets, a fighter who’s learned to lean on God and trust, albeit she sometimes goes her own route.
Kit takes on the plight of a mother whose husband has taken their babe and run. Her father is against it but Kit can only see through her own emotional response. How she’d react if her daughter Bella was taken from her.
There’s a murky situation evolving around Mrs. Coleman and Kit, with shadowy figures beyond the edges. Jackson has his hands full as the Chief, Graybone has taken on another enquiry. When the three cases dissect and overlap things become volatile.
Kit is going to be surprised, Jackson is going to be on full alert as his family is threatened. The chase is on with danger from every side.
A lively and astonishing read with the lives of secondary characters developing in a variety of ways. There’s Martha, baby Bella’s day care person, and Martha’s wonderful family. There’s Inspector Charles Bagget‘s whose heart lights up when he’s with Martha, but he’s scarred from a past relationship and can’t move forward.
Such a wonderful group, each a gift to us and to each other. The backdrop to Blackfriars Lane is a Dickensian London. To my mind Blackfriars Lane is somewhat akin to ‘Call the Midwife’, (I don’t know why—maybe because it’s the close community aspect) but on steroids, with faith and trust being central.
Another entertaining and intriguing read from Michelle Griep.

Many thanks to the author and publisher.

When I seen this book I knew I had to have it. I just love a good Michelle Griep novel. This one was no exception.
She definitely knows how to bring these characters to life!
I love Kit! She is very inpatient about certain things like opening her own business and getting her first client.
I love how her dad said to have patience and let tue clients come to her first and indeed they did!
After that, things took a turn and wow did the pace ever pick up!
I just couldn't put this book down.
Wow! I loved every minute of it.
Bella is just so adorable! She's my favorite character.
I love this quote from Kit's dad
What I think is that you should do some soul-searching. There is no shame in trying something new, and then when finding out it doesn’t work, admitting it.”
Thats where pride goeth before a fall.
Some great advice don't ya think? Too bad people don't really know how to use it or do it. Too proud so to speak.
There are many twists and turns and a lot of guessing who done it.
Griep is wonderful at this.
5 stars for an excellent adventure. I highly recommend!

The third and final adventure for Jackson and Kit! Now a wife and mother Kit's life is very different but that doesn't stop her fro being a great detective. Jackson now the new chief inspector is busier than ever. There are always so many funny, original characters in this series its such a fun time to get to know them. As Kit is following a new case danger is around every corner. She has to come to a conclusion to how will balance being a detective and a mother. And this is in 1887 when women are expected to stay home with the children.
Jackson and Kit's romance continue within the story as their love grows. The danger that ensues only makes them realize how much they mean to one another. A side story of the romance between Kit's friend Martha and inspector Charles Baggett was so endearing. This was a fun ride and I wish we would have more adventures with the Forges.

As the third and final book in the series, The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane did not disappoint! Michelle Griep is a masterful storyteller who brilliantly weaves together elements of family, faith, romance, history, mystery, and good and evil.

I have adored Jackson and Kit from the very beginning and in book three I enjoyed seeing them grow not only in their marriage and faith, but also in trying to balance their new roles with being new parents. I also liked seeing more of Graybone and his softer side, the growing love and affection between Charles and Martha, and the introduction of two characters, who either because of their quirkiness or eccentric ways, remind us of the wisdom in not being quick to judge but rather slow to listen.

In many ways, book three read much more like book one than book two in that it was well-paced and kept my interest throughout. The only reason why this isn’t a five-star read for me is because of some of the content, which I share below. And because of the content, I do believe some may need to read this more as Fiction with elements of faith than Christian Fiction.

Star Rating: 4.5 stars, rounded down.

Thank you, NetGalley and Barbour Publishing, for the eARC in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Content Warning: This is a historical fiction romance/mystery that takes place in 1887 in the City of London and does include: attempted murder, murder, child endangerment, child kidnapping, excessive force by an officer, lewd humor, attempted suicide, suicide (mildly descriptive), explosives, human trafficking (mentioned only). Romance is clean with some sweet, passionate kisses and overtones.

I really love this author and she pulls a story together. There were a few twists and turns I did not expect.

I highly recommend reading the first 2 books in the Blackfriars Lane series. Then read this book as Kit and Jackson are now ,arrived with a child.

It’s a great “Who dun it?” Where you learn to care about all of the characters- not just the main 2.

We finally got the series finale with Kit, Jackson, and little Bella! This story is set in Victorian England with plenty of action with mystery, suspense, and romance! The second half of the book kept me riveted and up late getting to the end. Which was a very satisfying happily ever after. Michelle Griep has such a great knowledge of that era, and it shows in her story. My thanks to @barbourbooks for the advance reader copy. This is my honest opinion.

It's been a treat to follow Kit and Jackson from the very beginning of how they met to now having a family. I recommend you start reading this series with book 1 for a better reading experience.

In this story, Kit feels pulled in all directions and with so many things clamoring for her attention. Of course, Jackson supports her but he's busy as well. When she takes on a case that pulls at her heartstrings more than usual, they both become involved in more ways than they expected.

The setting is completely immersive, the secondary characters are balanced, and the writing is excellent, as always. The kind of book you can't put down!

I love all the Michelle Griep books I’ve read, but Kit is my favorite character so far!
Kit is very street smart and she doesn’t always think before acting. But now that she is married and a mother, she is struggling to find her place in life.
This story is full of twists and turns. It is well crafted including a surprising pet at Kit’s home.
I would start with the first book in the series.

The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane by Michelle Griep is undoubtedly my favorite from the Blackfriars Lane series. Kit and Jackson have to navigate parenthood along with their roles in Kit's newly formed detective agency with her father and Jackson's promotion to Chief Inspector. Kit's first case, involving a missing child, pulls at her mama heartstrings. Will her normal investigative tactics with Jackson's help be enough to solve the case while keeping her family safe?

What I loved about this third book in the series is how real the character struggles are. Although this novel is placed in 19th century London, I felt like many of the topic translate well to modern day. Griep realistically portrays how flawed people lean into God's grace and mercy, all while encouraging each other to do the same. As a mom who also works, I understand Kit's struggle between being there for her child and also having a job to do.

As a special plus, the character development with Martha and Inspector Charles Baggett (minor characters from the first two books in the series) was much welcomed, as it added another layer to the plot. This installment was faster-paced than the first two; I couldn't put it down! Well done!

A special thank you to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for sending an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.

What an interesting ride this series has been, watching Kit and Jackson grow from adversaries to allies, from friends to spouses, and now, from lovers to parents. Kit really struggles to balance using her sleuthing skills to bring about justice while still making a happy home life for her husband and their infant daughter, Bella. When dangers connected to her first case multiply, she reconsiders the cost. She has often put her life on the line, but Bella’s?! My adrenaline was really pumping as this talented couple put their heads and hearts together to wrap up this assignment. Strong performances from old friends Charles and Martha really sweeten this perfect tale. Can I hope Griep isn’t satisfied to leave this a trilogy? Thanks to NetGalley for an early read; I was not required to post a review.

Kit Forge has overcome many obstacles in her life—abandonment, hunger, and growing up on London’s streets, to name a few. Each experience has honed her observation skills and turned her into a woman who can read others (especially those with criminal inclinations) and bring justice to the streets.

After falling in love with Jackson Forge, one of London’s finest constables, Kit overcomes her fear of commitment and settles (sort of) into married life. Her unique upbringing makes her ill-suited for the life of a housewife; fortunately, Jackson has no desire to fit Kit into a mold.

A growing relationship with her newly found father turns into a detective agency partnership. Despite their pact to agree on clients, Kit can’t resist taking on a case for a client with a missing child. The deeper she delves into the case, the more danger Kit encounters.

Jackson has his own woes as the newly appointed chief inspector at a busy London station. His predecessor left him with a mountain of paperwork and chaos in every department. To make matters worse, the superintendent gives him a deadline, and the most incompetent new constable Jackson has ever seen on a police force.

As Kit unravels layer after layer in her case, she and Jackson struggle with the conundrum of spending time with each other, their baby daughter, and other family while meeting all their work commitments. When the case takes an ugly turn, Kit faces a decision that will change the course of her life.

What I Loved About This Book

Readers who struggle with Supermom Syndrome (even a little bit) will relate to Kit and her dilemmas. How does a woman cope with all the demands (and decide which are imposed by self, significant others, or society) in her life? Jackson, while more enlightened than the average male of this century or any century in the past, can identify why he fell in love with Kit and what makes her unique (it’s not her cooking skills).

Kit and Jackson show readers how love doesn’t stop growing and adapting once the bride and groom say their vows. Any lasting relationship takes communication, compromise, and trust. For Kit and Jackson, a little nail-biting adventure and dangerous intrigue help them learn the lessons of married life faster than the average couple.

This was a good story and I really enjoyed reading it. I love a good mystery and this one fit the bill! I loved the suspense. The setting back in time to 1887 in England was great and I loved the Detective Agency that Kit and her father began together as a family work. The story will keep you guessing and that is certainly a mark of a good suspense story. The characters were engaging and realistic. I have read one of the prior books of this series, and somehow missed one as well. But this book reads well on its own. It did take me a little longer to become engaged in the story but once I did, I am glad that I kept reading. Definitely worth it! There was even some humor in this book.

Heart-pounding action and heartwarming romance abound in this third adventure for Kit and Jackson! I adored seeing Jackson progress as a loving and protective husband and father, and seeing Kit be a spunky detective who grows wiser as a mother and wife is a wonderful character arc for her in this series. Seeing Kit strike a balance in her life that didn’t compromise one dream at the expense of another was extremely satisfying. Seeing two other series characters find love was another wonderful addition to this romantic tale! The entire cast of side characters was so well constructed, multidimensional, interesting, and throughly entertaining! Best of all, the mystery and action was SO compelling! There were so many twists and turns that kept me guessing (and audibly gasping!) until the sweet happy ending! It was a hard won happily ever after for Jackson and Kit, and the very best conclusion to a wonderful series.

I received a copy of this book for review purposes, but my opinion is my own. I really did ADORE it!

The Sleuth of Blackfrairs Lane by Michelle Griep.

What a phenomenal follow up to The Thief of Blackfrairs Lane and The Bride of Blackfrairs Lane. I have had the honor of reading all three books and not once have I been disappointed. A steadfast hero and a precocious heroine join forces to fight crime while trying not to fight each other. Now there is a baby in the mix and poor Kit can’t seem to settle down to be a mother. Fighting crime and bringing justice to the victims of London is her mission in life.
I have always felt a bit of a kindred bond with Kit—when she see innocence being threatened, she goes to work on behalf of the victim. And her husband, Jackson, always seems to be right there to aide while bringing things back into perspective for Kit.

I would recommend that if you like historical fiction with plenty of mystery and a bit of comedy, that you pick up a copy of The Sleuth of Blackfrairs Lane now.
