I just loved Where the Wild Things Are and most of the books by Henrik Drescher and Rabbit Ears. They were such childhood favorites of mine! I actually have two fan clubs Rabbit Ears Productions Fan Club and Henrik Drescher Fan Club that are dedicated to these books!

I deleted some graphic novels that appeared on the list - 300, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Wolverine: Weapon X, and Batman: Year One. While they may literally be picture books, they don't really belong on a children's book list.

I really wish this list had a minimum number of ratings of say 500. It would be much easier to keep author spam off. And for us compulsive completists, we could read say the top 100 books withing reading or skipping those. Alternatively, a lot more people would need to vote for a lot more books.

Authors spamming Listopias has been a very real problem. Please feel encouraged to report it to GR anytime you believe that's going on.

In general I find reporting what looks to be obvious author spam on a list a waste of time. The only thing that seems to matter is explicit rules set out in the list description and enforced by librarians. Unfortunately that kind of needs to be done by the list creator.

So if the list creator changed the list to say that there needed to be a minimum of 500 ratings to be on this list, I would be happy to go and delete the 10 books from the first page and the 8 books from the second page and so forth.

Books I would remove if only the criteria on this list were different:

African Safari with Ted and Raymond - 64 ratings with 24 votes.
The Tiny Caterpillar and the Great Big Tree - 23 ratings with 26 votes
My Sister Is My Best Friend: A Trilingual Story - 22 ratings with 18 votes
My Brother Is My Best Friend: Trilingual- Spanish, French and English - 44 ratings with 17 votes

Sure I could report them as listopia spam but generally I'd expect nothing to happen. I could remove them as a librarian, as can any librarian. But without clear guidance by the "list owner" preferably in this list description - such as a minimum number of ratings - like say 500 - I won't delete them.

Is the list creator still around? She could also edit to put "promotional spam will be deleted" in the description. A minimum rating requirement would also be a good idea, except that many people have added childhood favorites that have very few ratings, so it wouldn't be fair to delete those.

I don't see the list creator speaking up. But an alternative to use in other lists is that if the book is older than goodreads - say 2000 or earlier then there is no minimum rating requirement - or the minimum is a lot smaller, say 50 ratings.

For my needs I recently created - Best Popular Picture Books on Goodreads with pretty limited criteria - that is 5000 ratings and shelved at least 500 times as "picture book". Sure it won't be as long as this list - and if people ever start voting on it, I'll probably end up doing a lot of deletion. But it will always be a good starting place for picture books.

I think most of the "classics" people learned about in their childhood are by white or white European authors. The market is saturated with books by white people.

Nowadays we see a lot more books in this genre by black or poc authors which is awesome. Hopefully in the future people will think of and vote for more non-white authors. <3
